Cressing karting ace Tyrone Stansfield opened his push for the Easykart British Cadet Championship title with an impressive final victory in the first round at Shenington.

The 12-year-old Alec Hunter Academy pupil finished fourth overall last year and was looking for a solid start to the 2015 event.

Stansfield, who is sponsored by Great Leighs company G & B Finch of and K & B Tatam of Maldon, had a good qualifying session and secured pole position for the opening heat race to match his achievement of last year.

It was a tight race, but Stansfield gradually opened a gap and finished 2.6 seconds clear of the second-placed kart to secure front spot on the grid for the pre-final.

It was another good start for the Cressing racer and he built a five-second lead, but on lap six his kart let him down as water had got into his carburettor and he had to stop.

Not finishing meant he would begin 17th for the final, but his carburettor was rebuilt and he started to carve his way through the pack from the start.

Stansfield moved his way up the field, overtaking two at a time and catching the front runners as he joined a train of six drivers who were trading places for the lead.

He got up to fourth and went for a brave move to get up to second before flying into the lead on lap ten and then extending his advantage by the time the chequered flag came down.

In this race he also set the new track record of 51.092 seconds, which improved the previous best that he set last year.

The next round is on April 18 and 19 at Three Sisters in Wigan.
