Braintree Town are hoping for a bumper turnout when they offer free entry to their first-team fixture against AFC Telford United on Tuesday.

The club have offered under-16s free season tickets for the past two Conference Premier seasons, but this occasion will see football fans of all ages able to walk through the Miles Smith Stadium turnstiles for no charge at all.

The fixture could be a key one in the Vanarama Conference Premier season.

Braintree’s stunning 5-1 win at Torquay United on Tuesday have seen Iron boss Alan Devonshire setting his sights on another top-half finish, while Telford are desperate for points in their battle against relegation.

Chairman Lee Harding said the club is making the offer as a way of showcasing their “good quality product” to fans who may not have considered attending as they look to build a bigger fan base and said volunteers would be out and about spreading the word about the game.

He said: “We are working hard behind the scenes and there are a number of people distributing leaflets and posters.

“We’ll have a number of representatives out and about at the weekend in the town centre, at the bus and train staions and hopefully at Freeport.

“We’re just looking to spread the word and let people know that there is a Braintree freebie in the offing.

“Hopefully that will attract the people of Braintree.

“We don’t know how many as it could be a few or it could be in the thousands, but it’s all a learning process for us."
