Witham Town assistant manager Brad King said it was disappointing that they couldn’t back up their rousing win against AFC Hornchurch with another three-point haul on their trip to Billericay Town.

With Witham being in a dogfight towards the foot of the Ryman League premier division, they were delighted to take points off the Urchins, who are one of their relegation rivals, but were unable to take another step forward as they lost 3-0 at the New Lodge.

King felt it could have been a different outcome, but said there was a collective responsibility for the defeat.

He said: “After Saturday we went to Billericay full of confidence as everyone was on a high after beating Hornchurch, but you have to be realistic.

“Billericay have won 13 home games in a row and scored about 30 goals, so it was always going to be tough to go there.

“They have an effective way of playing and it didn’t help that we went three nil down in the first half.

“We had chances but they hit us a couple of times on the counter-attack.

“Perhaps we could have dealt with it a bit better, but they were clinical as they had three chances and converted them all.

“It’s disappointing that we couldn’t make more of ours and I think there has to be a bit of collective responsibility.

“Myself and (Witham manager) Garry (Kimble) went with the formation that had worked well on Saturday and it probably wasn’t the one to go with there, but the players have to shoulder some of it as well.

“The forwards didn’t make more of the chances we had, the defence could have dealt with things better at the back and the distribution from midfield could have been a bit better, so there are things for us all to look at.

“At half-time we were all a bit down, but we went with more pace after the break and had more chances.

“I don’t think Louis (Godwin-Green) had anaything to do, but Billericay had already done their job.

“It was the same old story really.

“It’s what you expect at this level as opposition forwards are clinical and that’s why people pay the money for them.

“We have had so many chances in each game and we have to take them when we are on top.”
