Braintree BMX Club’s six-round Winter Series concluded with riders attending from all over the south of England and plenty of home success.

The final round saw hard-fought racing in the blustery conditions, but the consistency of Braintree’s Joseph Long throughout the series was rewarded with Formula Five class victory.

The win in the final round in Formula Four went to Joe Little and that earned him the overall class win from Cameron Parrish in second, while the rider of the day also came from the class and it was Zak Acteson-Rook who impressed with his determination.

Two riders had some spectacular duals in the Formula Three class.

Hayden Challis and Sydney Allen hit the front in nearly every race they entered all winter and put on a great display of bike control.

Allen won five out of the six rounds, but missed a round through injury and that was enough for Challis to take the overall title.

Jamie Collins is a stalwart of the club race series and his commitment to the cause shone through as he dropped just six points across all races to take the overall class win in the Formula Two class.

The overall victor in the senior class was Dave Pattle, who took good points in each round to hit the top.

The final round, though, saw a great battle between Peterborough’s Michael Ledlie and Braintree vice-chairman Gavin Stokes. Stokes hit the front from the first corner and headed for home but Ledlie semed relentless in his charge and through the final corner he made his move.

As they drag raced for the line, Ledlie made a mistake and was pitched over the bars on the final jump but hung on to scramble across the line for the win.

Stokes was left with nowhere to go and also went down in an unceremonious heap allowing Milton Keynes’ Joff Ivory through for the silver.

The over-13 ladies’ class was wrapped up by Isabel Potter, who took the win in each round, while Teresa Challis improved throughout the series and finished second in the final round and in the overall standings.

The top class of the series was Formula One, with some of the country’s top riders fighting tooth and nail.

The final round saw Josh Butson make a great move on the first turn to hit the front and he took the win on the day from Taylor Andrews, with Shane Redgewell third.

However, Redgewell had done enough to secure the overall points win from Chris Pott
