Braintree and Bocking Swimming Club built on their earlier successes at the final part of the Essex County Championships at Basildon.

It had been a very successful championships for Braintree and the springboard for further success came in the form of Ole Mills, who not only added to his tally of gold medals – making it eight in total – but also scooped the Top Boy award for his age group.

Braintree are becoming quite strong in the 16-year age group where Dylan Nutt joined Mills in the butterfly and breaststroke finals and along with Edmund Beaton, turned out best times in abundance.

At the other end of the age groups, from the ten-year-olds upwards, Euan Higgs, Thomas Pullen, Nancy Neave, Ellie C, Sam Rennie, Harry Beney, Lily Bott, Darcy Coburn, Marcie Aley, Jacob Kitching, Harry Edwards, Daniel Parker, and Keir Gibson are showing great promise. All of these swimmers should help Braintree to a very healthy position when the Junior League starts next month.

James Wicks had personal bests in his freestyle and breaststroke swims, as did junior captain Oliver Preece.

These were followed up with impressive swims from Morgan Foster, Olivia Campe, Daisy Hughes, Monty Forster and Ben Speakman.

Nell Sackett had a top-eight finish in the 200 metre breaststroke and Charlotte Speakman improved her best time in her freestyle event.

A much-improved Harry Maris had a super freestyle swim as did Carmen Salthouse, Grace Lambert, Annie Fynn and Tyra Johnson. Eloise Dockerty had good swims in the backstroke, butterfly and individual medley while World Masters medallist Lee Peterson again showed the youngsters what it was all about in the breaststroke and backstroke finals.

Ladies captain, Lucy Gardner, set a new personal best in her individual medley as did Chloe Philips in her backstroke.

The swimmer scooping the second highest tally of medals this year was Charles Rennie, who qualified in several finals, taking a top-three spot on many occasions.

Rennie has also represented Essex recently in the Junior Inter-Counties in Luton, which saw them win for a second year running.
