Despite a pairs win for the Queen’s Head and draws in the triples and ladies’ matches, the Eagle hit back in the singles games to take overall match honours in the Braintree Open Darts League.

Mark Garrod took the first singles tie for Queen’s Head, but that was followed by victories for the Eagle’s Kelvin Byrne and Matt Last.

Even though Mark Worster levelled things for the Queen’s Head, Paul Little, Steve Carlisle and Kevin Byrne all took their matches as the Eagle had the singles and overall match won.

The Welsh Princess won the ladies’ match at the Retreat but went down 2-1 in the pairs and also lost the triples, before the hosts claimed the opening six singles games to ensure a 10-2 match win.

Wethersfield A went to Witham to play the Swan and soon found themselves on the backfoot with the Swan winning the pairs 3-0.

A draw in the triples gave the visitors a glimmer of hope but with the Swan winning all seven singles, the home team had that competition tied up.

A win for Wethersfield B’s ladies’ team over Legends put them in second spot in that competition.

The pairs resulted in a 2-1 win for Legends followed by a draw in the triples, however, Legends won all seven singles for a 10-2 match win.

Braintree Football Club maintained their 100 per cent record in the ladies’ competition as they beat visiting Notley Sports.

The pairs matches saw the Football Club take an early advantage with a 2-1 win but a draw in the triples and opening wins for Ted Ulmer and Stewart Thorogood in the singles put Notley ahead.

The Football Club came back with wins for Andy Slade and Lynn Kelly, however wins for Graham Chinnery, Dave Islip and Jon Islip in the final three games saw Notley take the overall match.
