The Retreat stayed top of the Braintree Open Darts League championship table with a straightforward win at bottom side Wethersfield B.

A 2-1 win in the pairs and a triples win got the leaders off to a good start and even though Wethersfield’s Kevin Taylor had a 2-0 win over Steve Prow, the Retreat won the singles 6-1.

There was also a win for second-placed Swan against Bocking.

Swan took the pairs and triples before Mick Cain won the opening game of the singles for them and even though Bocking pulled two games back with wins for Dave Joyce and Phil Watkins, the Swan took the next four games 2-0 to wrap it up.

Legends still sit third in the overall championship standings despite losing at fourth-placed Cressing.

There was a draw in the ladies and triples matches, while Cressing claimed the pairs 2-1.

Legends’ Dan Taylor won the first singles but wins for Cressing’s Shane Smith, Tony Bamsey and Richard Pryke had the home team looking for one win to claim a match victory.

Wins for Legends’ Ernie Holden and Chris Holden saw the match go into the last game, but a 2-1 win for Cressing’s Rhys Hayden saw the match secured for the hosts.

The ladies and triples were drawn between the Eagle and Notley Sports, but a 3-0 pairs win for the Eagle set them up for the overall victory along with singles successes for Barry Olds, Steve Arnold and Steve Carlile.

Wins for Ted Ulmer, Leigh Bently, Graham Chinnery and Dave Islip saw Notley take singles victory, though.

Braintree Football Club took ladies and pairs victories but a draw in the triples and a singles fightback from the Welsh Princess allowed them to take the overall match win as Bruce Mawdsely wrapped it up with a 2-0 win in the final game of the night.

Wethersfield A won the ladies match 2-0 at Queen’s Head and also the triples, but the hosts claimed pairs honours and with wins for Gary Deal, Martin Brady and Dave Clack, took the singles 5-2.

The Retreat’s John Abbott recorded two 180s and team-mate Steve O’Neil one while Notley’s Ted Ulmer hit a 142 shot-out.
