Braintree and Bocking Angling Society’s Winter League Trophy resulted in a close finish, but a late run of skimmers just gave Pete Thompson the verdict.

The Fennes lakes have been used by the society for their last few matches as there are plenty of silver fish willing to feed over joker in the groundbait.

The Winter League Trophy was fished on Hobbs Croft and Thompson had a weight of 17-6-0 to just keep him ahead of Reece Hearn in second with 17-1-0.

Kevin Howell took 15-12-0 for the third highest weight, with him and Hearn both winning the sections and Jamie Derry winning the other section with 11-14-0.

The Elliot Pairs Cup had one section on Ash Grounds and the other on Hobbs Croft.

Both were badly affected by a cold wind, but results were still fairly good.

Hearn had the day’s top weight of 15-12-0 on Ash Grounds with his mainly roach catch and his partner, Howell, weighed 7-12-0 on Hobbs Croft for a third in section to give them the Trophy with four points.

Second pair were Gary Spong, who won the Hobbs Croft section with 14-13-0, and Thompson, who was fourth on Ash Grounds with 10-4-0 for a five point total.

The Friday Sweep at Notley resulted in a win for Thompson with two F1s, one crucain and silvers for 4-6-0, while John Daniels fell just short in second with two F1s, one skimmer and perch weighing 4-1-8.
