His team’s superb recent form and improved fitness may lead Braintree Town manager Alan Devonshire to stay out of the transfer market in January.

The Iron head into Saturday’s Vanarama Conference Premier game against Forest Green Rovers at the Miles Smith Stadium on the back of a run of eight wins in 11 games and six from their last seven outings.

The latest win in that sequence was their 2-0 FA Trophy win at Gosport Borough on Saturday that set up a last-16 home tie against Ebbsfleet on January 24 and showcased the upturn in Braintree’s fortunes since they have recovered from their autumn injury nightmares.

Devonshire feels he is in a better position now in terms of squad assets available and that, and their current form, are lessening his need to bolster his options.

He said: “I speak to the chairman if there is anyone who I think is out there and I say I’d like to get them in.

“I’ve had a couple of sniffs already, but at the moment, I don’t think I need to make any changes.

“I’m happy with what I have got now we’ve got pretty much everyone back to fitness.”
