Witham Town boss Garry Kimble wants the experienced members of his team to “come to the fore” and maintain the side’s mental strength in the latter part of games.

Kimble is hoping that their draw against fellow relegation battlers VCD Athletic last weekend will prove to be one Ryman League premier division point gained rather than two dropped, but is asking his players to make sure they don’t continue slipping up late in games.

Just as they did against Billericay, Lewes and Kingstonian earlier in the campaign, Town allowed a late goal in to deny them valuable points.

Witham had dominated the game in the early stages and should have put the result beyond doubt then, but they still held the three points with five minutes remaining and Kimble wants more mental strength at key moments, starting with today's trip to Wingate and Finchley.

He said: “We threw the two points away at the end, but we could look back on it at the end of the season and it could be a vital point, just as it was at Leiston.

“It’s very tight down there.

“Had we won the games that we’ve conceded late goals in then we’d be in mid-table looking comfortable.

“But we knew that this season wouldn’t be easy.

“It’s just players switching off.

“We have the experience now and those players need to come to the fore.

“They have to roll their sleeves up and make sure they help other people out. "
