Alex Lynn insists he will be in it to win it when he lines up in one of the world’s most prestigious and hard-fought single-seater motor racing championships this year.

The 21-year-old racing driver from Dunmow has been named alongside Pierre Gasly in the DAMS Racing line-up in the 2015 GP2 Series and is targeting rookie success as he aims to build towards a Formula One race seat in 2016.

Lynn is understandably excited to have joined a team that has provided the GP2 champion in three of the last four years and is also looking forward to expanding his F1 opportunities this year.

He said he is “very close” to also securing a position within a Formula One team alongside his GP2 commitments.

It won’t be an F1 race seat for the 2015 season, but, if it is confirmed as Lynn hopes, then it could open up some exciting opportunities to progress his career into the top-tier of single-seater motorsport.

“Watch this space is all I can say at the moment,” he said.

But he knows he will have to show he can perform in GP2 to really continue the upward momentum he has gained in the last two years after winning the Macau Grand Prix and finishing as top rookie in the F3 European Championship in 2013 and becoming the 2014 GP3 series champion.

“I’m looking to win it (the GP2 title) in my first year,” said Lynn.

“That will be tough because a rookie hasn’t done it since Lewis Hamilton (in 2006) and Nico Hulkenberg (in 2009).

“To be honest, it’s probably the hardest thing I could have to do, but it’s good to set out winning the title as my goal."
