Witham Town know they will have to turn good performances into results as they return home looking to stay clear of the Ryman League premier division’s drop zone.

Following Tuesday’s 3-1 defeat at Metropolitan Police, Witham manager Garry Kimble and assistant boss Brad King both feels tomorrow’s encounter with VCD Athletic (kick-off 3pm) is a “six-pointer” for their team.

Witham have played well when they have seen action against sides towards the top end of the division in recent weeks, but that hasn’t been shown in their results and they are now one place and one point above the relegation places.

VCD Athletic – Witham’s old sparring partner from division one north last year – are in the bottom four and Town know three points will be crucial.

“It’s a real six-pointer for me,” said Kimble.

“I know we have three games in hand over VCD, but if they win they will go above us in the table and we don’t want to get drawn down into the relegation zone.”

King added: “We aren’t going to stay in this division going to places like Met Police, who are chasing promotion; it’s the games that are against the teams in and around us down the bottom – like VCD – that are going to decide it.

“People have been so complimentary about how we’ve played, but we need to turn performances into points."
