Braintree Town manager Alan Devonshire is warning his team about the attacking threat that Gosport Borough will pose to his side when they head to the south coast in the FA Trophy today.

The Iron face last season’s beaten finalists in a second round tie at Privett Park (kick-off 3pm) knowing that their hosts sit eighth in the Vanarama Conference South table and have scored 37 goals in the league so far this season.

Another 34 have come in cup competitions, including three in a 6-3 defeat by League One Colchester United in the FA Cup first round in November.

Leading scorer Justin Bennett got two of those goals against the U’s and has scored 25 so far this season, while former Southampton and Aldershot striker Matt Paterson has 17.

And Devonshire knows his team must be wary against a side who know what it takes to go all the way to Wembley in this competition.

He said: “It will be tough – we know that.

“They have a few players who we know are being watched by pro clubs and we know very well about their strengths going forward.”
