Braintree Town chairman Lee Harding has said manager Alan Devonshire will have “room to manoeuvre” if he needs to make changes to his squad during the January transfer window.

In contrast to this time 12 months ago, when the club’s income was hit by not having any games for six weeks due to waterlogged pitches, finances are in a better position and Harding said Devonshire would have scope to bring in new faces once the window reopens tomorrow.

“We’re certainly in a better position than this time last year,” said the Iron chairman.

“Then it was merely about surviving because we had a month and a half with no income.

“As ever, in those circumstances, the board is the overdraft of last resort, and we got through it.

“But with this January in mind, Alan knows he has room to manoeuvre.

“We will never promise him money that we haven’t got, but if I think if he wants to make changes he has the ability to do so.

“Certainly looking at one or two that we have spoken about, it wouldn’t surprise me if he doesn’t make some subtle changes."
