Alex Lynn is the new GP3 Series champion.

The 21-year-old racing driver from Dunmow was crowned as the 2014 champion after qualifying at the Yas Marina circuit at the final round in Abu Dhabi this morning.

While the Carlin team racer secured fourth place on the grid for tomorrow's feature race, Koiranen GP's Dean Stoneman - the only driver still able to prevent Lynn from taking the title - could only take second place rather than the pole position he needed to keep the title race alive.

That means Lynn now has an unassailable lead at the top of the GP3 standings and will add the 2014 GP3 Series crown to the 2013 Macau Grand Prix title in his list of career highlights.

Three of the last four GP3 Series Champions have progressed into the current ranks of Formula One at the pinnacle of single-seater motorsport and Lynn's ambition is to also reach that in the next few years.

He is a member of the Red Bull Junior Programme and will be looking to continue impressing watching F1 team bosses when the feature race gets under way early tomorrow in Abu Dhabi.

ART Grand Prix's Marvin Kirchhöfer was the driver to deny Stoneman the pole position that he needed and will line up at the front of the grid for tomorrow's GP3 race.

The title wraps up a successful season for Lynn, who has led the standings in the series since the opening qualifying session in the first round in Spain and gone on to dominate the 2014 championship.
