Braintree Town manager Alan Devonshire knows a sharp start for his team will be the key to success in their FA Cup first round tie against Chesterfield tomorrow.

The Iron head into the game against the League One side not having won a Vanarama Conference Premier game in nine attempts, but have high hopes of causing an upset in the Cup.

However, Devonshire (pictured) knows that won’t happen if his team are as sluggish as they were in the early part of their 1-0 defeat by Grimsby Town on Tuesday, so is looking for a strong start.

He said: “When we’ve scored early, we have then built on that, but we haven’t scored early for a while.

“Now I’ve got members of my strike force coming back though and I’d like to think we’ll start scoring goals.

“We have to move the ball quickly and sharply and not let the opposition dictate to us.

“We have to play the way we want to play and if we can impose ourselves on them doing what we do well then we’ll have a chance.

“If we don’t, then we’ll get beaten, simple as that.”
