Seb Murfet felt it would be unfair on manager Garry Kimble and his Witham Town team-mates if he continued playing after taking up a new job.

The 29-year-old left-back has ended a successful association with Witham after five seasons at Spa Road because of the commitments of a new job working for the London Underground.

It was a tough decision to tell Kimble last weekend that he would be leaving, but Murfet said he knew it was the right thing to do as he was unable to give enough time to the team and felt that wouldn’t be fair.

Murfet said: “I’ve got a new job working on the Underground and it’s doing nights so I just couldn’t do the football any more.

“It’s night shifts on Mondays to Thursdays.

“Garry said I could just play Saturdays but that’s not fair on either him or the lads."
