Braintree Town’s long wait for a Vanarama Conference Premier win goes on but they once again showed they can match the division’s best in a goalless stalemate against Woking.

Despite the boost of progressing in the FA Cup in midweek, their 0-0 draw means the Iron now haven’t won a league game in their last eight attempts and are sitting 15th in the table.

However, just as they did against Barnet and FC Halifax Town during that run since their last win, it was another point taken off a side who had arrived at the Amlin Stadium sitting in the division’s top three.

It also ended a run of four back-to-back league defeats and was a first clean sheet in six outings in the Conference Premier.

Woking, who boasted the Conference Premier’s leading marksman – Scott Rendell – among their ranks, had the lions’ share of the game and chances in the first half.

But Braintree looked stronger after the break, with Simeon Akinola going closest, and boss Alan Devonshire felt the only thing missing was a goal for his team.
