Alex Lynn said he is looking at the big picture in the GP3 Series title race after just mising out on claiming the 2014 crown at Sochi.

The 21-year-old racing driver from Dunmow will have to wait five weeks to wrap up the title in Abu Dhabi after a frustrating time at the penultimate round in Russia.

Lynn, who races in GP3 for the Carlin team, is a member of the Red Bull Junior Programme and was hoping to continue impressing watching Formula One team bosses as he tries to convince them that he should be handed the vacant ride with the Scuderia Toro Rosso team in F1 next year.

He had been looking to enhance his credentials further by dominating in Russia as he has throughout most of the GP3 season, but things didn’t quite work out for him.

Results in Russia mean he still needs two points at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi to claim the title, so he has to sit tight to be proclaimed as the champion.

However, he felt it was the bigger picture that he needed to focus on.

Lynn said: “It wasn’t the best weekend we’ve had and it was the first one where we didn’t have the pace we needed.

“The biggest problem was that we could not get off the corners fast enough.

“It was probably our worst of the season, but we have still managed to put ourselves in a pretty good position for the title.”
