Alex Lynn will have to wait until the final round of the GP3 series season to become 2014 champion.

The 21-year-old racing driver from Dunmow could have wrapped up the title at the penultimate round of the series at Sochi in Russia, but things didn't quite go his way.

A seventh place in the first race coupled with a fifth in race two means he still needs two points at the final round in Abu Dhabi to claim the title, so he has to sit tight to be proclaimed as the champion.

Lynn, who races in GP3 for the Carlin team, is a member of the Red Bull Junior Programme and was hoping to impress watching Formula One team bosses as he tries to convince them that he should be handed the vacant ride with the Scuderia Toro Rosso team in F1 next year.

He had been looking to enhance his credentials further by dominating in Russia as he has throughout most of the GP3 season and was hoping to do that in race two as he started from second on the grid.

However, he got pushed down to third in the first two corners and lost another two places as he appeared to lack straight-line speed.

It meant Lynn was never able to keep consistent pressure on the car directly in front of him to make a passing manoeuvre while finding it tough to hold off those behind him and he was forced to drive a more conservative race.

In the end he had to settle for fifth spot and results for other drivers meant he left Russia with a 47-point advantage so will have to wait to be proclaimed champion.
