Paul King feels the spirit among Witham Town’s players means they should be looking at more than just mere survival in the top flight of the Ryman League this year.

The Town skipper has hailed the togetherness within the Witham dressing room that has seen them book a trip to Needham Market in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup and make a strong start to life in the premier division.

There were fears that, having earned promotion from division one north last year, this season may be a struggle against relegation for Witham, but they have been proving any doubters wrong so far.

They face a premier division trip to Leatherhead tomorrow and King feels their spirit will take them a long way this year.

The 32-year-old Town captain said: “The team spirit is amazing here.

“Even if we go behind we seem to find the will to fight back.

“It’s such a big thing for us and I think team spirit is going to be a huge thing in keeping us up this year.

“We have ability with the players with the likes of Danny Emmanuel, Conor Mead, Ryan Blackman and Tom Wraight, but everyone is still waiting for us to slip up.

“There’s talk out there that we have a massive budget, but trust me, that’s not the case.

“We have a good group of boys and there’s no-one playing for the money."
