Bobsleighs and Braintree may not be the most obvious of connections but Aleasha Kiddle is hoping to set that record straight.

Winter sports like that are more commonly associated with the Cresta Run than the Cressing Run, but the 22-year-old former Braintree and District Athletic Club star is currently working with the Great Britain Bobsleigh team in Switzerland.

And if she continues to impress at the team’s alpine training camp, she is hoping to join the senior GB team when she could travel around the globe training and competing in European and world-class events.

And potentially even at the Winter Olympics in the future.

Kiddle’s natural athletic prowess was spotted at a British team selection event in Bath when her strength and speed were identified as being ideal attributes for the bobsleigh.

She said: “I hadn’t seriously considered the sport until quite recently.

“At first I was looking for something fun to try and a new challenge to re-focus on.

“I love learning new things and I naturally wanted to do something that potentially I could be good at.

“I know a few athletes who have transferred from track to bobsleigh.

“Bobsleigh seemed like the perfect transition as I have always been naturally fast and strong.”
