James Mulley has made a good start to reaching his target of more than ten Braintree Town goals this year and will be looking to add to his tally as the Iron head to Eastleigh in the Vanarama Conference Premier tomorrow.

The 25-year-old currently has a strike-rate of just under one goal every ten appearances since joining Braintree from AFC Wimbledon in July 2012 but has his sights set on a ratio closer to one in four this season.

His strike against Kidderminster last Saturday – a beautifully clipped shot with the outside of his right foot that curled into the top corner of the goal – showed he has goals for himself as well as setting up others in his repertoire.

And he is keen to hit double figures this year.

He said: “I really want more goals this season and it’s something I’ve really targeted.

“I need to do better and I think one in four is a decent target for me.

“That’s about what I’m on now so I’m pleased with that.

“If I can play 40 games plus this year then that’s ten goals and double figures will be good.

“More like the one against Kidderminster would be good, but I’ll take tap-ins if that’s what it takes.”

The game at Eastleigh will see Braintree looking for another three-point haul after winning five of their last six league games.

Boss Alan Devonshire said he didn’t expect any of his longer-term injuries, including centre-half Remy Clerima, to return for tomorrow’s game and said Ryan Peters may also be a doubt after feeling his hamstring tighten up towards the end of their midweek game at Aldershot.

However, Kenny Davis will come back in after serving a one-match ban on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Dan Sparkes has been called into the England C training squad that will meet at St George’s Park next week.

The training session for the England side – that is made up exclusively of under-23 players from outside the Football League – will see them prepare for an International Challenge Trophy group game against Turkey next month.

Boss Paul Fairclough is likely to select his team for that game from the training group.
