With just three games of the Essex Invitation Petanque Summer League season left to play, Bocking B can still pip their A team for the runners-up spot, but Onley Arms have wrapped up the title.

It was an important double-header at Bocking as the B team entertained Onley Arms and in the first match, Lorne Gibson, Trevor and Dan Blows were always in front against the hosts’ David Mills, Christina Knights and Richard Tite before taking a 13-6 win.

Mills then beat Dan Blows 13-11 in the singles, but Trevor Blows and Gibson picked up the points they needed in the deciding doubles to beat Ian Ruffle and Tite to take the summer league title.

In the second match, Bocking opened with a triples win for Ruffle, Tite and Knights, before Mills beat Gibson 13-8 in the singles to ensure a first match defeat of the season for Onley Arms. But they avoided a whitewash as they took the doubles in a 2-1 defeat.
