Alex Lynn knows the showdown of qualifying could go a long way to deciding his success as the GP3 Series joins the Formula One Championship in moving to Hockenheim in Germany this weekend.

All three races in this year’s GP3 Series have been won from pole position so far – two of them by Lynn – and the 20-year-old from Dunmow wants to make sure he heads the grid again to maintain his lead in the championship.

As a member of the Red Bull Junior Programme and with hopes of earning a Formula One drive in the next few years, Lynn knows his skill in qualifying is key not only to GP3 success but also to impressing watching F1 team bosses.

Lynn, who drives in the GP3 Series for Carlin, but drives a Red Bull-branded car in recognition of his place on the junior programme, said: “Qualifying is massively important and it can really make or break your weekend in this championship.

“But I relish that pressure and it’s something you have to do well to be a top line racing driver."
