Alex Lynn showed he is in no mood to relinquish his early-season lead in the GP3 Championship as he blazed a trail for others to follow at the Red Bull Ring in Austria this afternoon.

The Dunmow racing driver, who is driving for the Carlin team, but is a member of the Red Bull Junior Programme, set the fastest pace in free practice at the track in Spielberg.

He was almost six-tenths of a second clear of the second-fastest driver - his Carlin team-mate Emil Bernstorff.

It meant Lynn laid down an important marker to the rest of the field ahead of qualifying tomorrow morning as he looks to repeat the superb opening round of the season in Spain last month.

Lynn won the first race in Barcelona, as well as taking pole position and setting the fastest lap.

GP3 qualifying in Austria will be at 8.45am (British time) on Saturday, with the first race starting at 4.20pm and the second race on Sunday at 8.25am.
