Witham Cricket Club skipper Leroy Facey was pleased to see a more complete performance from his team as they secured an important victory in division one of the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship.

Jake Wakelin proved to be the star with both bat and ball as Witham eased to a seven-wicket victory against Haverhill.

It was only their second success of the season and Facey has been disappointed with some parts of their play this summer, but he was happier with his players’ application this time.

Facey said: “We spoke before the game how we hadn’t brought all three parts of our game – batting, bowling and fielding – all together to the standard that we would expect.

“However, we managed that in this game.

“It wasn’t a must-win game, but it was a very important one nonetheless."

Witham are due to head to Mildenhall in division one today.
