Sam Habergham knows Braintree Town’s achievements last year will have placed their players on other teams’ radars, but hopes the Iron can keep their winning formula together this summer.
The 22-year-old Braintree full-back became the latest to sign a new deal last week that will keep him at the Amlin Stadium for a third campaign.
Habergham was an integral part of the impressive defensive unit that kept 21 clean sheets last year and made them the third meanest team in the Conference Premier in terms of goals conceded.
He knows those kinds of statistics and Braintree’s sixth-place finish will have aroused attention from other clubs, but had little doubt about where he wanted to be.
The former Norwich trainee said: “I think quite a few of our players have attracted interest from elsewhere and that’s natural with the success we had, but when Braintree offered me a deal I was keen to take it straightaway.
“It was good to get it sorted as it’s good to know what you are doing for next season."
