Braintree postman Tom Joyner is setting his sights on delivering a European karting title to go with the World one he claimed at the end of last year.

Having won world karting’s most prestigious prize in 2013, the 21-year-old from Black Notley is bidding to add the 2014 CIK-FIA European Championship to his list of achievements in the sport. Joyner, who works for Royal Mail in the Braintree Delivery Office, races in the most senior of the world karting classifications – the KF class – and knows how important the European title is.

He said: “It’s nearly up there with the World Championship in terms of prestige.

“Most of the top drivers come over to compete in the Europeans and although you get a few more for the Worlds, with some drivers dropping down from cars to make it even tougher, the European Championships are the heart of our season."
