Witham Town manager Garry Kimble feels his team’s last-gasp heroics against Aveley may have swung the pendulum back their way in the race for the Ryman League division one north title.

After trailing 1-0 with three minutes of normal time to go, Witham hit back with goals from Felix Ogeah-Andrews and Danny Lopes to snatch an unlikely win on Tuesday that preserved their unbeaten home record in the league.

With leaders VCD Athletic losing against Soham Town Rangers, the win put second-placed Witham back to within two points of the frontrunners with two games in hand ahead of tonight’s home game against Harlow Town.

Kimble said: “It looks like the pendulum has swung back our way, but I think this title race is going to go to the wire.

“We were a bit flat against Aveley and I said at half-time that we needed to lift it and keep going.

“We needed a spark and I think them scoring was probably the one we needed.

“There was also news coming through that VCD were losing.

“Paul King wasn’t playing but he was shouting from the sideline that VCD were behind and the lads responded. When the second goal went in from Danny Lopes it all erupted.

“It was like we had won the cup final.

"This result could be a turning point for us, but it’s another big game for us tonight against Harlow so we have to go again.”
