Braintree Town will have to do without their skipper for tonight’s Skrill Premier game at FC Halifax Town as Kenny Davis will be sitting it out with an infected toe.

However, the Iron captain will be leading the cheering from the sidelines - and maybe offering some advice to boss Alan Devonshire - as the team complete a marathon week on the road in which they have travelled more than 1,400 miles in six days.

Davis said: “I just got a bit of a knock on the ankle at Southport and then somehow the guy’s foot has come across mine and knocked me on the nail.

“Unfortunately it has let an infection get in so I’ll be missing tonight, but I’m getting antibiotics in now and after 48 hours they’ll have worked so I think I should be OK to play (against Salisbury at the Amlin Stadium) on Saturday.

“It’s not anything to do with the amount of games we’ve played, it’s just an impact injury where I’ve been caught on the foot.

“It’s important to try to get back because we need everyone fit with all the games still coming up, so hopefully I’ll be back.

“I’ll be on the sidelines tonight, but I’ll be there to cheer the boys on and I’ll be in the dug-out and acting like an assistant manager.

“Maybe I’ll have a few words of advice to offer Devs (manager Alan Devonshire)!”

Braintree could leap up to third place in the league with a win tonight after Tuesday’s 4-0 win at Southport.
