PHOENIX LADIES II 1 OLD LOUGHTONIANS 2

Essex Women’s League division three

Phoenix seconds ended their campaign against the league champions and played some exquisite passing hockey, but despite their best efforts, Old Loughtonians managed to hit them on the break twice against the flow of play.

That saw the visitors go into half-time leading 2-0.

Cool young heads at the back from Lydia Elvin, Rachael Sims and Alex Mackle denied any further attacks from the visitors, while at the other end, Verity Morris created space to score and take the team’s goals-for total to a century for the season.

However, they were unable to force an equalising goal.

Captain Karina Tarling said: “We felt we could have taken at least a point from the game.

“The team has taken positives from all of our recent performances and we remain hopeful that Essex Hockey will see fit to promote three teams this season.

“We have finished several points clear of the rest of the division with myself and Verity Morris featuring in the league top scorers’ list.”
