Braintree Town Reserves boss Mark Sansom wants his young team to realise they are better than they may think they are as they could help form the future of the club’s senior side.

Despite losing 3-1 to Long Melford in Thurlow Nunn League division one on Saturday, Sansom’s side had recorded two good results against title-chasers Halstead Town in the two games before that.

They followed a 1-0 win with a 2-2 draw at the Amlin Stadium and Sansom wants his players to draw confidence from those performances.

He said: “Halstead are title contenders, but we’ve played them three times now this season and haven’t lost against them.

“We need to take confidence from that because we are a lot better than what we realise.

“There are some good young players in there and that’s what it is all about."
