Braintree Town continued to be a good advert in favour of mid-season breaks as they passed their 50-point Skrill Premier target by easing to a 2-0 win at Forest Green Rovers.

The win means the Iron have now taken 14 points from six games since returning to action after 42 days without any league games.

And that means they have moved past the 50 points that boss Alan Devonshire believes will ensure their Conference Premier survival this year.

So instead of looking over their shoulders at a relegation battle, Braintree's focus can return to a possible push for a top-five finish and a spot in the Skrill Premier play-offs this year.

The three points earned at Rovers took them up to 11th in the table and they are now just five points behind fifth-placed Barnet with five games in hand.

The bulk of the possession at the New Lawn was with the hosts, but the crucial statistic was goals scored and that was all with the Iron.

Dan Holman's good scoring record continued in the first half as he found the back of the net for the fifth game in a row.

He fired home a 36th minute penalty after Bernard Mensah had been fouled and Mensah then got on the scoresheet himself after the break when he hit the target in the 68th minute.

There were a few late scares for the Iron as Forest Green looked for a way back into the game, but the Braintree defence held firm for another three points.

The Iron will now try to extend their unbeaten run to seven games when they travel to Lincoln City on Saturday.
