A tremendous sceond-half performance by all the Witham players saw them win this game against one of the best teams in the league who have been enjoying a good run of results.

The home team started strongly with long throw-ins by Jack Cawley causing problems in the Witham defence and almost took the lead when Steve Spriggs caught Witham keeper Martyn Guest off his line.

Spriggs’ shot bounced just wide and he almost scored again, but couldn’t find the back of the net with an open goal at his mercy.

Witham weathered the storm, though, and at the other end, home keeper Alex Archer had to save from a shot by Conor Mead, while Lewis Godbold fired over for the visitors just before half-time.

The visitors’ half-time team-talk must have been good, though, as they were much-improved after the break, with Danny Emmanuel making good runs.

Archer did exceptionally well when making two saves from powerful close-range shots by Kris Newby.

However, despite Witham being on top, it was Sudbury who took the lead when their captain, Sam Clarke, shot low into the net after a good run and cross by James Baker in the 68th minute.

But this good Witham team never gave up and began to take control once more.

They equalised in the 84th minute with a fantastic free-kick from James Stevens and weren’t going to settle for a draw as they pushed for a winner.

And they were rewarded in time added-on when newby made a run down the right and his cross was headed down by Dean Green to young substitute Shamido Pedulu, who was waiting to blast the ball into the roof of the net.

Witham: Martyn Guest, Conor Mead, Seb Murfet, Brad Stopher, Paul King, James Stevens, Kris Newby, Luke Olley (Dean Green 60), Danny Emmanuel, Lewis Godbold, Tom Wraight (Shamido Pedulu 82). Subs not used: Paul White, John Watson, Danny Lopes. Man-of-the-match: Danny Emmanuel.
