Phoenix Hockey Club is set to take a lead on offering hockey and facilities to people with learning or physical disabilities.

As part of its on-going programme of getting people into the sport and as part of club first accreditation, Phoenix will be hosting its first disability section event tomorrow evening.

The new format, which is supported by England Hockey, is known as Flyerz and the free sessions will be held at Phoenix’s home ground in Bocking Church Street, Braintree.

Players should arrive at 6.30pm for a 7pm start on Friday and the session will finish at 8.30pm.

Age groups start from six upwards and the club will adapt games to players of mixed abilities, including those in wheelchairs, using a range of equipment, such as plastic sticks, targeted to specific weaknesses.

All equipment will be included, but participants should wear comfortable sports clothing and bring some water.
