Braintree Town's New Year's Day fixture against Cambridge United has been postponed because of a waterlogged pitch at the Amlin Stadium.
The Iron had been hopeful yesterday that the hard work of their ground staff would allow the Skrill Premier game to go ahead, but rain during New Year's Eve afternoon and overnight has thwarted their efforts.
With both sides doing well in the league, a big crowd had been expected for the game but standing water on the pitch meant it was impossible to get it on.
Braintree have said both clubs are keen to get the game played and have suggested Tuesday (January 7) as a possible date for the re-scheduled fixture.
An announcement about when the game will go ahead will be made soon when it is formally decided.
