Braintree Town manager Alan Devonshire was delighted to see his team move to within four wins of achieving their 50-point Skrill Premier target.

Devonshire thinks that will be the points tally they will need to guarantee their top-flight survival for another year and their 2-0 win against Tamworth brought them closer to that.

Ryan Peters’ first goal for the club and James Mulley’s 76th minute strike proved the difference between the sides.

But, with Tamworth seeing Lee Hildreth sent off for two yellow cards in the first half, it was a completely dominant Iron performance that probably merited far more goals for the hosts.

Devonshire said: “It was tough, but I thought we fully deserved it.

“Even before the sending off, I thought we were comfortable and I was just waiting for the goal to go in.

“Winning 2-0 after losing at Cambridge, I’m delighted and now we move on.

“I said at half-time that we just needed to be patient.

“Their keeper had done well and maybe should have buried a couple, but we’ve ended up winning 2-0 and keeping another clean sheet.

“I thought it was a good team performance all round.

“We looked strong at the back and through the midfield in tricky conditions.

“The pitch was soft and I felt we dealt well with their physical presence.

“We’ve now got 38 points and we’re only just over the halfway mark, so I’m delighted.

“They looked after themselves after the Cambridge game and I’m pleased for them.”
