A 5-2 defeat at Soham Town Rangers in Ryman League division one north ended Witham Town's 11-game unbeaten run.
Garry Kimble's promotion-chasing side had won their last five league games and were unbeaten in 11 in all competitions, but their Boxing Day trip to Cambrisgeshire wasn't a happy one.
Town trailed 2-0 at half-time and were 4-0 down before Lewis Godbold strick just before the hour mark, but they conceded a fifth to leave Shamido Pedulu's late strike as just a consolation.
The defeat left Witham third in the league, six points behind leaders VCD Athletic, but they do have two games in hand over the front-runners.
Witham's next game will be against Dereham Town at home on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
