Witham Town manager Garry Kimble is hoping the latest addition to his squad may be available to play in tonight’s Ryman League division one north fixture against Aveley at the Village Glass Stadium.

Tilbury skipper Conor Mead has moved to Witham as Kimble has moved to bolster his defensive options after discovering that right-back Craig Emery’s ankle injury may take longer to get over than had been thought.

Kimble said: “Craig had a setback with his injury and is having another x-ray on it so I knew I needed someone else to come in.

“I’ve been playing Michael Begg in that position, but he’s not really a right-back and when the opportunity came to get Conor, I grasped it.

“He’s played over 100 games at Tilbury and I think he has a big future in the game.

“He has been Tilbury’s captain the last two seasons so has real leadership capabilities and I think he’ll fit straight into the squad.”

Mead may come straight into the side for tonight’s game and Witham know a win could take them top of the division, but Kimble knows his team will have to be sharp if they are to extend their 11-game unbeaten run.

“We can’t under-estimate Aveley,” he added.

“Justin (Gardner) always sets his teams up well and Aveley have been a bit of a bogey side for us.

“We lost to them last year at home as well as away, but I’d hope that we have a bit too much for them.

“However, we have to make sure there is no repeat of last week’s midweek game.

“After such a good performance against VCD, we weren’t good against Redbridge and got out of jail a bit with it being abandoned because of the fog.

“We can’t afford that because we can’t falter as teams around us are winning.”
