WITHAM Town boss Garry Kimble believes his side have pulled off a major coup by securing the permanent signature of Kris Newby.

The striker has penned a two-year deal, having previously been on loan from East Thurrock United.

Newby has netted a dozen goals during his time with the club and is now under contract until the end of next season.

Kimble admitted being “over the moon” with the development and said it capped a fantastic few days for the Ryman One North club, who thrashed leaders VCD Athletic 4-1 on Saturday.

“To have signed a player of Kris’ calibre is a major coup,” said the Witham boss.

“He’s the kind of striker who will attract interest from elsewhere, but he’s happy and settled here and wants to stay.

“The fact he’s signed a two-year deal shows his commitment to us and also our commitment to him.

“He feels wanted here and rightly so.

“When we offered him the contract, he snapped our hands off.

“Kris is scoring goals but he’s also got so much energy.

“He wears his heart on his sleeve and his work-rate is second to none.

“The players around him appreciate how much he grafts and so do our supporters.”
