BRAD Quinton insists he is still very much a Braintree Town player – despite speculation to the contrary.
Iron’s all-time record appearance-holder turned out for Enfield Town against Carshalton Athletic last weekend.
It had been reported that Quinton had linked up with the Ryman Premier outfit, now managed by former Iron boss George Borg, as a player-coach.
That sparked confusion over whether the long-serving Iron midfielder had agreed to join the North London side on a permanent basis.
But Quinton has stressed to the Times that he only joined former manager Borg purely on a dual-registration basis.
And he says he has been assured by Braintree boss Alan Devonshire that he still has a role to play at the Amlin.
Quinton said: “I’m still very much a Braintree player – I still want to start games for them.
“The Enfield Town thing came about after we had played Barking, in the Essex Senior Cup.
“George phoned me on Wednesday evening and we had a chat. Enfield Town is local to me and I said I’m happy to do it, as long as it’s just a case of getting game time.
“But I’m a Braintree player still and I’ll do my best for them, whether it’s on or off the pitch.
“There has been some confusion about what sort of deal it is and my phone has been red hot with people asking me what’s going on.
“But it’s only a dual registration I’m very much still a Braintree player.”
