A loss at Alfreton meant Braintree Town recorded back-to-back Skrill Premier defeats for the first time this season.

A 3-1 win meant Alfreton continued their own impressive form in front of their own fans while the Iron were unable to bounce back from a midweek loss to Luton Town.

Alfreton went 2-0 ahead with goals by John Akinde and Tom Shaw, before Luke Daley halved the deficit soon after half-time, but Josh Law made the points safe for the hosts in the 66th minute.

Braintree manager Alan Devonshire said: “We had a lot of possession in the early part of the game and some good opportunities, but they scored with their first attack.

“Credit to them as they worked hard and their lad up front (Akinde) was a handful.

"I’m not going to be too hard on my boys after it.”

One worrying aspect of the game came ahead of Tuesday’s FA Cup replay at Newport as skipper Kenny Davis rolled his ankle in the first half and had to come off at the break.
