Alan Devonshire says he will be making changes to his Braintree Town line-up as they return to Skrill Premier action with a home game against Luton Town tonight.

The Iron come into the game on the back of a 1-1 draw against Newport County in the first round of the FA Cup on Saturday and manager Devonshire said there is a level of apprehension about what the effort of that game will have taken out of his players’ legs.

The Amlin Stadium pitch was heavy at the weekend after recent rain, while the Hatters rested several members of their squad in their 2-1 defeat by Welling in the cup.

At least one Braintree change will be enforced by an injury to a player who Devonshire declined to name and he said there may be others if he deems it necessary.

He said: “Someone will be definitely out but I’d rather not say who, but there are likely to be a couple of changes.

“I’m a little bit apprehensive about it as it was a tough tough game against Newport and the pitch is likely to be heavy again.”

One Braintree player who will be missing is Sam Habergham as he continues his recovery from an ankle ligament problem and Devonshire said he was still about a week away from a return.

Meanwhile, Braintree have been handed a second round draw at fellow Skrill Premier side Kidderminster Harriers, but Devonshire said he and his players won’t be thinking about that prospect yet.

He added: “It’s a tough draw and will be similar to having to go to Newport in the first round replay.

“But why should we be frightened about going to Kidderminster?

“We’re capable of beating anyone in our league on our day, but we won’t be looking at that until we have got past Newport.”
