Devonshire praises Iron's work ethic after win lifts Braintree into fifth
Braintree Town manager Alan Devonshire was full of praise for his players’ work ethic after their 3-1 win against Alfreton Town lifted them up to fifth in the Skrill Premier table.
The Iron won with goals by Charlie Strutton, Sean Marks and Dan Sparkes to leave Bradley Wood’s late strike as only a consolation for the visitors.
The result ended a profitable week for Devonshire’s team as it capped wins against Southport and Wrexham to elevate them into the play-off places.
The win at Wrexham on Tuesday had been particularly taxing and the Iron boss was impressed by how his players had regrouped after their long trip to Wales.
He said: “If you work harder than the other team then nine times out of ten you’ll win the game.
“Our boys worked hard in this game and they work hard in training.
“We are only part-time, but we put a big shift in.
“I’m just so proud of them for these three wins in a week because some of them weren’t 100 per cent fit.
The only down side to Braintree's day came as Kenny Davis limped off with hamstring pull.
Devonshire confirmed that it may keep his skipper out for several weeks.
