Kimble to use derby game as an FA Cup pointer
Garry Kimble will be keeping a close eye on his Witham Town players’ performances when they head to Maldon and Tiptree in Ryman League division one north tonight.
With an FA Cup second qualifying round fixture coming up at Hemel Hempstead Town on Saturday and on the back of their first defeat of the season last weekend – a 4-1 league loss at Waltham Abbey – Kimble is expecting his players to rise to the challenge of the local derby tonight.
He was disappointed by the defeat at Waltham Abbey and admits he will be using tonight’s performance to help him make team selections for the cup tie.
Kimble said: “People will be playing for their shirts for Saturday.
“That’s a big game for us and everyone is going to want to be involved, so I’m looking closely at their performances tonight.
“No-one came out with much credit on Saturday.
“It was only really Seb Murfet and John Watson in the second half, but no-one else really brought anything to the table.
“It will be hard because Maldon will be up for it and it’s so tight at the top of the table.
“You have to take points away from home as well as winning your home games in this league.
“I’m expecting a few changes to our team and I’ll be going with more energy, especially up top.
“People may not be happy if they’re dropped, but I could have left any one of nine out after what I saw on Saturday.”
Kimble said his only injury concern was Usama Hamden, who would be missing tonight with a back problem.
