Leaders Witham will be seen as a target
Garry Kimble knows his Witham Town team will be viewed as a target as they make their return to Ryman League division one north action at Chatham Town on Saturday.
Town drew 0-0 with Newmarket Town in the FA Cup preliminary round last weekend before going on to beat the Jockeys 2-0 in a replay on Tuesday.
However, it is the league campaign that will be occupying Witham’s thoughts now.
They are currently riding high at the top of division one north after making an unbeaten start to the season, but Kimble knows that makes them more of a target for opponents at the start of a testing month.
He said: “Everyone raises their game 20 to 25 per cent because everyone wants to unseat the league leaders.
“Chatham have had a good start and won 5-0 in the cup at the weekend so we know it will be hard to go there, but we are capable of going there and picking up more points.
“I want to see us back on it after a poor show last weekend because September is a big month for us.
“After Chatham, we have Needham Market at home on Tuesday and then Sudbury and Maldon and Tiptree coming up before the end of the month.
“Once we get to the end of September, I think we’ll have a better idea of how we are standing because we’ll have played most of the top sides once.
“It will be a testing month, but they are all tests and no games are easy in this league.”
Kimble said he expected James Stevens and Danny Lopes to come back into contention after both had missed the last few games through personal commitments.
