Kimble knows repeat show will mean a cup exit for Witham
Garry Kimble knows a repeat of his Witham Town team’s first performance against Newmarket Town will see them exit the FA Cup when they meet in their preliminary round replay tonight.
The two are due to meet at the Jockeys’ Cricket Field Road ground after drawing 0-0 at the Village Glass Stadium on Saturday.
Kimble was disappointed with his team’s display against their Thurlow Nunn League premier division opponents in that first encounter and is expecting more when they clash again to try to set up a first qualifying round tie at home against Mildenhall Town on September 14.
“It was a very lacklustre performance from us first time round,” said Kimble.
“I think some of our lads thought the game was won before we kicked off because they are in a league below us.
“But fortunately we’ve got another bite of the cherry.
“We just didn’t perform as we have been and I felt some players let themselves down.
“I’ll probably look to make a few changes, but we’ll have a look at their pitch first before making any decisions.
“Hopefully we can do it the second time around because the prize money from the cup is important to us.
“It will allow me to strengthen our squad, but it won’t be easy and it’s a long midweek journey for us.
“I was impressed with Newmarket.
“They played the ball around, had some good experience and had two very good wide men.
“We just have to make sure we turn up and do the job properly because if we have another lascklustre performance we will get turned over.””
Kimble said he would have Seb Murfet returning to his squad after the full-back was unavailable on Saturday and forward John Watson would also be available again.
