Sam Taylor's early goal saw Witham Town impose Thamesmead Town's first defeat since mid-December to keep the Spa Road side's Ryman League division one north play-off hopes alive.

Town know they have to make up ground on the division's top five sides, but also knew they faced a Mead team bubbling with confidence and flying high as one of those leading outfits.

However, the visitors set up their win early on as Taylor concluded a run into the hosts' penalty area with a finish to put Witham ahead.

Both sides had chances to score both before and after the break, but with no more goal action, Witham broke Thamesmead's ten-match winning run in the league and completed an impressive double over the promotion hopefuls from Kent.
