Witham Town manager Garry Kimble wants his players to perform with freedom and smiles on their faces when they face AFC Sudbury tomorrow.

The Town boss won’t be complaining if they do, but insists there is no pressure on his players to put themselves in the Ryman League division one north play-off frame and wants them to enjoy what they are doing for the rest of the season.

Kimble said: “There’s still a slim hope of getting in the play-offs, but there’s no pressure on us now.

“From now on, I want the lads to play with freedom and with smiles on their faces like they did against Waltham Abbey.

“If we get there, then all well and good, but if we don’t, then we’ll still have had a fantastic season.

“I think we are safe from going down and staying up was the only real aim for the season, but I just want to see how many points we can get now.

“Had someone told me we would finish in the top half in our first season, I would have taken their arm off and I think we will do that now.

“We’ve got 14 games left and nine of those are at home, so if we can win our home games, who knows where 27 points will take us?

“But I really don’t want to put any pressure on the lads and I just want them to enjoy it and to play with a bit of swagger.”

Lewis Godbold picked up a slight groin strain on Tuesday and while Kimble hoped his midfielder would be fit to face Sudbury, he said he wouldn’t risk him if he wasn’t 100 per cent.

Forward Rob Whitnell returns for the game after missing the midweek win through personal commitments, but Tom Devaux will still be missing.
